The gorgeous blog We Bloom Here,
has been enjoyed by many of us for a few years now.
The author, whose words and work I find beautiful, colourful
and inspirational, is dear Margaret Bloom.
Her new book "Making Peg Dolls", is just wonderful.
The book is filled with beautiful photographs, diagrams and illustrations
amongst it's 192 pages and hardback cover.
There are patterns for over 60 different dolls plus accessories,
each with easy to follow-step by-step instructions.
...I asked my boys to each choose their favourite page.
And this is my favourite.
A few words from Margaret...
"There is a game of self-reflection I stumbled across recently – it involves answering the question: What is your superpower? After thinking about it a moment it struck me that my superpower is… whimsy. I love making mobiles (delicate white paper birds which float beneath the ceiling), I love making toys for my children and I love inspiring creativity in others. The most magical opportunity writing this book has offered me is the chance to sit at tables surrounded by children eager to begin creating. I especially love the moment when quiet falls as the children settle into concentration, carefully drawing little faces and applying paint to small wooden dolls."

We haven't made a peg doll yet, but I'm always so smitten by them when I see one. If it's a peg doll, we love it! There's something inherently gorgeous about them; perhaps its' their petite proportions. (BTW, the dragon and knight set in the book definitely caught my eye!) xo P
ReplyDeleteI think my favourite is the flower fairies in all their many splendid varieties, but especially Dandelions! I used to find a nice mossy section of garden and make my own little flower fairies with (most often) dandelions, leaves and sticks when I was little, so dandelion themed peg dolls remind me of those happy memories. Plus the seed heads are great for wish making, even now I'm grown :)
ReplyDeleteWe hacen't made peg dolls before but would love to! I have always been drawn to their cuteness...I think it would be a great home school project for my 2 boys, to make some 'mystical' dolls to live in the wooden castle in the boys room :)
ReplyDeleteI remember having old style clothes pin dolls. I had one that was little red riding hood. So cute with her pointy hood. I would love to make the fairies or the carrot peg dolls. So adorable.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great looking book - I'd love to try making these beautiful dolls. I have seen so many around facebook and blogland, but I think my favourite are the ones with clothes that represent the seasons.
ReplyDeleteLovely! We haven't made many peg dolls but my favorite is one Miss 4 and I made together about a year ago. She drew the little face on herself and although it isn't the prettiest peg doll, it certainly is the most loved. Hannah @ Paint On The Ceiling
ReplyDeleteGorgeous giveaway, and it is on my wish list, so fingers crossed! I'd love to try making flower fairies using the pattern from this Cosy Life.
ReplyDeleteThe book is on my wish list too! I love the basket of "vegetable" peg dolls, just perfect for my little gardener :-)
ReplyDeleteThere are so very many I love. The pirate maybe? Of course, I love anything small and blue.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much.
I always look at people who have made these adorable little peg dolls and wish for the day to make my own. They melt your heart they are so adorable. Best wishes and I hope, despite not having a favourite, I can still be considered for the competition. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity to win! We had fun with a peg doll exchange in the early Spring, hosted by Margaret, of course! I loved handstitching monarch and luna moth wings for my contribution! My son is loving his Mexican luchador peg dolls right now, but we've also made Yoda and Chewbacca, Dorothy and her three Oz friends, and so on and so on. The inspiration is limitless!

ReplyDeleteAh, this book is simply incredible! My fav peg doll of ALL times is the owl by Margaret - webloomhere.blogspot.ca/2011/03/hoot.html
ReplyDeleteIt is cute beyond words!!!!!
Wonderful peg dolls! I would simply love to win the book! My son's favorite peg dolls are the three little pigs with wolf, which I showed to him and he went crazy to have them!
ReplyDeleteThis book looks so inspirational!! I love peg dolls and have made several, of varying quality, for my kids. My favorite was a little family set - just painted - I made for my daughter when the baby was born, but I'm smitten by how they can look so different by adding felt.
ReplyDeleteThis book has been on my wishlist since the moment it's been published :) My favorite peg dolls are three bears and a Goldilock - my LO adores that story and these peg dolls are so stinkin' cute! Thanks for this great, great chance!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautifully inspiring book and such an accessible art form for families to create together! My favourite peg dolls would be a set of the Three Billy Goats Gruff so my nearly 3 year old and myself could act out the story together. Th possibilities are endless and I know that once I get around to making my first set of peg dolls, will be hooked and iit will be a very fun hobby for myself and my daughter!
ReplyDeleteA favourite, oh dear! I have been waiting to get my hands on this book for sometime now. Our house is happy with anything fairy at the moment, but branching out would be wonderous.
ReplyDeleteI have just started making a set of peg dolls each for my girl and boy. Disney princesses for her and Avenger Series for him...they are intrigued so far! Am hoping to win....
ReplyDeleteI hope to add this book to our home library, it looks fantastic! Veggie dolls, knights or gnomes, I can't decide which is my favourite!
ReplyDelete~ joey ~
I am new to your blog and really like what I've seen so far. Thanks for the giveaway. All peg dolls amaze me. I tend to really be enchanted by the woodland fairy animal types. They are really sweet. This is a book that I would love to share with my girls and hope we get picked for the giveaway. I can be reached at angielemar@gmail.com. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteOh, thanks so much for the chance to win! I've been wanting to check out this book, and the kit makes it all the more sweet a treat. I have a few favorite peg dolls I've made for my daughter, all based on her interests: the Tomten (from Astrid Lindgren's book), the characters in Pooh, and Nerissa and Katryna Nields (her favorite musicians).
ReplyDeleteHow fabulous! As far as my favorite peg doll goes, I really do love my very own creation Miss Tabatha Toadstool. But I am always looking for inspiration. My daughter and I will have a blast making friends for Tabatha. Thank you so much!

ReplyDeleteI've made some flower pegdolls; a dandelion family and a snowdrop-mama. But I'd love to make those vegetable-dolls for harvest season.
ReplyDeleteI love the pixie dolls with the big flowers. Very colourful and just right for my daughters fairy door.

ReplyDeleteoh, flower dolls! Always, flower dolls!
ReplyDeletePirate peg dolls! My little man doesn't mind a fairy here or there, but pirates are the best.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite peg doll is the first one I made, aged 8. All random, wonky fabric and way too much runny glue. Great memories :-)

I have made several different peg people since then and would love to have Margret's book to inspire me further. Thanks for the fun opportunity! Hope Everyone is Enjoying summer.

Recently, I found myself wondering where I could buy old-fashioned clothes pegs...so that my son and I could make some peg dolls together.
ReplyDeleteMy son turns most the objects and animals he plays with into Papa, Mummy and Baby. I would like to make him a family of peg dolls. And then hopefully my husband and I will make him some sort of doll house (a tree-house, perhaps?) to go with these dolls for Christmas this year.
The book looks gorgeous. I would love to take a good look at it!

ReplyDeleteMy boys love the bug themed peg dolls - think bees & butterflies.
What gorgeous dolls! I've made some tooth fairy dolls with a little pouch to hold the tooth tucked up inside them. By the time the children have lost all their baby teeth they'll have a lovely collection of colourful fairy dolls & they get to keep their teeth. :) This book looks deliciously inspiring! I'd love to try making some more of these. Jo - info@2acrewoods.com
