When I was a kid I LOVED the Curiosity Show.
(Perhaps it's an Aussie thing)
(Perhaps it's an Aussie thing)
LOVED it.
Along with half the kids in my class.
I could never get the related science books from the library,
because they were always out on loan!
because they were always out on loan!
I remember the disappointment of not being able to do science at home.
Which I think is primarily the reason why I encourage
my boys to experiment away!
my boys to experiment away!
Recently we watched Dr Deane Hutton's DVD - Table Top Science.

The boys were in heaven and wanted to try everything.
Maybe one day... but for now, we did this -
SPINNING EGGS - Momentum & Inertia
EGG IN A BOTTLE - Air Pressure
MAGIC PENCIL - Polymers
So much fun!
Wonder what we'll try next?

This looks great! Wow! I've never seen the pencils one? What were they doing there?? Science is great for little minds... and big ones too!
ReplyDeleteThere are so many incredible experiments. The pencils go straight through the bag, without it popping or leaking. We've done this one many, many times... :)
DeleteThese are cool. Would be even more awesome if you showed us how to do them! haha :)
ReplyDeleteps- you've still got capatcha on and it's taken me 3 times so far to try and leave a comment x
Hi Deb,
DeleteDeane's DVDs are so worth it. He shows the 'trick' and then again in slow motion, explaining everything about why/how the activity works.
Fantastic for my boys, aged 4 & 6 now.
I put captcha back on because I was getting so much spam :(
I'm sorry you've found it difficult. Thanks for persisting!
They look like they are having so much fun experimenting! i used to watch that show to although i am sadly not very science minded!!!
ReplyDeleteWe were only allowed to watch our very favourite shows when we were young.
DeleteCuriosity Show was one. The Brady Bunch was another ;)
oooh I loved that show too!
ReplyDeleteOne of the best thing about being a parent is being able to relive the joys of your childhood with your own kids!
Hee hee Kate. You're so right!
DeleteI looooove science. I don't think I've ever seen the show. It's so wonderful that to share Science with your kids!
ReplyDeleteI agree Penny.
DeleteThere's so much of our world to explore - it's wonderful to be able to give our kids the support, tools and space to discover it in.
Oh fun and games!
ReplyDeleteThese all look like so much fun. I might have to look for that dvd. R would love this.
ReplyDeletehaha I just checked out the Deane Hutton website and played one of the videos. What a flashback to hear his voice again!
ReplyDelete..."I'm glad you asked"...
ReplyDeleteIt never gets old, does it Ness?
